I love advertising. Or any of the pseudonyms that it chooses to go by – social, online video, activation, content, engagement, etc. It’s all about getting a strategic idea out in the world to get a point across and/or sell a product. And I feel stoked every day I get to work with smart people to make interesting things.
I’ve made a fairly successful career (and interesting life) by finding myself somewhat off the traditional path(s). Denver, Tempe, Boulder, Ketchum, Saigon (aka Ho Chi Minh City), Hong Kong, Bangkok, Saigon (again), San Francisco, Boulder (again), and now Tampa.
Over the course of my working life I’ve built creative departments in different countries, founded a multinational agency in a challenging market, worked with global CMOs, entrepreneurs, and mom and pop shops – and dug each of them just the same. I’ve presented to heads of state (Note: Should you be doing this, tell your MD to remember his laptop charger if we’re using his machine. Fortunately, we also went old school and printed the work on boards.) I’ve won a few pieces of metal, and have been a part of work that our teams could all be proud of. But most importantly, I’ve stayed good friends with pretty much everyone I’ve worked with, from clients to colleagues, and some amazing production partners in all parts of the world.
