So I’m only a little abnormal.
I’ve got a quirk that requires that I never travel (drive, walk, motorcycle, etc.) to and from a destination on the same route in the same day (or on longer journeys). I’ve got to switch it up. This drives my wife crazy on road trips because it could mean traveling several hours in another direction to venture down a varying path. My kid is unphased, as it usually results in a Happy Meal.
I guess it’s equal parts curiosity, wanderlust, and preventing boredom. And perhaps why my career has taken me away from the more frequently trodden paths. I have to see new stuff, and look at things differently. When in motion. And when making the work.
Over the course of my career, I’ve built creative departments in different countries, founded a multinational agency in a challenging market, worked with global CMOs, entrepreneurs, and mom and pop shops – digging each of them just the same. I’ve presented to heads of state (Note: Should you be doing this, tell your MD to remember his laptop charger if we’re using his machine), and have helped guide the next generation(s) of talent. I’ve won some metal, and have made things that the people I’ve worked with can all be proud of.
